According to a new research published recently, excessive use of social media during pandemic is causing increase in Psychological illness in youngsters.

UK’s “Education Policy Institute” and “Prince’s Trust” has reported that even before pandemic, probability of psychological illness is very common during childhood and teenage. Report is also stating that in late teenage these mental issues increase in girls while slightly decreased in boys.
Another alarming fact is that mostly long-lasting psychological issues begin in young age. 50 percent of these mental health issues start by the age of 14 and 75 percent by the age of 24.
Excessive social media usage
“Heavy Social media use is the core reason behind this worst mental health scenario”, the report said.
Excessive social media usage is also associated with low self-esteem and well being of boys and girls in adolescence. Low level of physical activity is the main drawback of heavy social media usage.
Physical inactivity leads teenagers towards being over-weight. This situation will ultimately cause many other diseases and issues.
Recommended solution for psychological illness
Researchers who conduct this report also put their recommendations for UK’s government to improve mental health.
Improve the capacity of school leaders and teachers to support children with mental and emotional health needs.

This study also reveals another important reason behind heavy social media usage. Teenagers who feels worse are spending their maximum time on social media. Because, they’re looking for solace and community to get rid of bad feelings.
